A Salade Niçoise is a traditional salad originating from the city of Nice in the south of France. It is a composed salad, meaning that it is made up of different ingredients arranged in an artistic and visually pleasing way, rather than simply tossed together.
The classic version of the salad Niçoise consists of: -Green beans -Potatoes -Tomatoes -Anchovies -Tuna -Hard-boiled eggs -Niçoise olives -Lettuce
All ingredients are typically cooked or marinated separately, then arranged on a plate or platter, with the lettuce being the base. The salad is usually dressed with a simple vinaigrette made of olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and herbs.
It’s typically served as a main course, rather than a side dish. Variations of the salad can include, adding cooked chicken, or replacing tuna with grilled fish, or adding some capers or chopped shallots to the vinaigrette.
It’s a popular dish during summer time, as it’s fresh, light and healthy, and it’s usually served cold.
